Tutor Profiles of Holistic Health Training

Lynda Mabin,
BA, MA (Hons), Dip Tchng.

Lynda is the founder and director of HHT Ltd, and has been in the education business for decades. In 1987 she moved to the UK, and combined her passion for fitness and her teacher training by working in a weightlifting gym in Bristol. There she learned Anatomy & Physiology and massage therapy, including deep tissue work. Returning to NZ in 1990, she opened a gym, wrote an Anatomy & Physiology course, trained in Holistic Pulsing and Cranio-Sacral Therapy and spent the next 14 years as a practitioner. In 2004, she bit a very large bullet and had the organisation and its courses accredited and approved by NZQA.

As well as running the business side of things, and undertaking course development work, Lynda still actively teaches Massage Therapy and Holistic Pulsing, and in spite of her advancing years, still delivers 10 exercise classes a week.

Serena Gallagher

Serena Gallagher trained at Wellpark College of Natural Therapies in Auckland, gaining her Diploma of Therapeutic Massage in 1996. She is also a Feldenkrais Practitioner, and completed her Professional Training in 2002. She enjoys working with clients using holistic massage and movement education to improve their sense of self and well being. Serena is based in Christchurch, and welcomes students to her home-based clinic.

Natalie Grace

Natalie Grace is one of our Auckland-based teachers, offering both Massage Therapy and Holistic Pulsing courses in Mt Eden and other central Auckland venues. Natalie has been a body-worker since 2002 and has trained and practiced in a range of holistic body therapies including Massage, Holistic Pulsing, Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy. She also co-leads Mindfulness and Meditation classes and brings her own special calm, unique style to tutorial situations.

Myffie James

Myffie James is a trained teacher, qualifying with a Diploma in 1992. Her involvement with bodywork began in 1986 when she studied for a BSc primarily in Biology and attended her first massage workshop. Her on-going training over the years includes Advanced Massage, Anatomy and Physiology, Cranial Sacral Therapy, The Journey, Holistic Pulsing and is a Hakomi Graduate (a form on Body Centred Psychotherapy). In 2005 she gained a Diploma in Holistic Pulsing from the NZ HP Guild, which she now also teaches. Since 2003 Myffie has been in private practise, and currently works from her therapy room in Stoke, Nelson.

Barbara Gibb

"Hi, I'm Barbara, based in Wellington and I offer Holistic Pulsing training. I have been a Holistic Pulsing Practitioner since 1997, and have a wide experience of mind-bodywork; CranioSacral Therapy, Hakomi, Energy alignment and Chakra balancing. I have studied Reiki and Esoteric Healing and share that subtle energy-awareness in all my work.

I'm in private practice in Wellington city and also welcome students at my peaceful garden clinic 5 mins from the CBD. I have studied and practiced meditation here for twenty years; that stillness permeates my teaching and private sessions.

I love watching the self-empowerment that Holistic Pulsing brings to students. The blend of gentle movement and stillness is a source of creativity and curiosity in my tutoring and therapeutic work. I look forward to sharing this with you, too."

Corinne Murray

Corinne Murray developed an enduring interest in health and healing as a teenager. In 1990 she discovered Holistic Pulsing and began training in this field, giving up study at the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine to specialise in Holistic Pulsing; it soon took over her life and became her number 2 passion (her son having to be number 1). She achieved her Diploma from the Holistic Pulsing Guild (NZ) Inc in 1994 and went on to gain the Guild Teaching Certificate in 1995.

She has continued to practice, teach and study ever since, with different teachers and on her own, in Christchurch, through the South Island and Australia. She facilitated parenting courses when her son was at school, taught school swimming, went part way through a psychology degree, and gained an NZQA Certificate in Adult Teaching in 2008. She has been an active and committed member of the Holistic Pulsing Guild and has held an Annual Practising Ccertificate since its inception, valuing high standards of professional practise & training.

One of her greatest joys in life is sharing Holistic Pulsing, which she offers in Christchurch Central as well as at Birdlings Flat where she now happily lives. Having recently joined the HHT team, she looks forward to continuing to spread the Holistic Pulsing ripples.

Peta Joyce,
BA, AUT PG Cert Health Science (Mindbody Healthcare)

Training and experience:
My background is in sociology, integrative and body-focussed psychotherapy, mentoring and supervision, training and group facilitation. I have been in private practice for over 25 years.

I have been involved with Holistic Pulsing since its first development in New Zealand in the 1980’s. I am a Holistic Pulsing Guild Accredited Practitioner and Teacher. As a life-long learner, my latest venture into education is a postgraduate qualification in MindBody Healthcare, which led to co-editing and contributing to the book “Transforming Clinical Practice Using the Mindbody Approach: A Radical Transformation” (Broom, B., 2013, Karnac Books).

I also work as a group facilitator, supervisor and mentor in the education, not-for-profit and health sectors. Over the years I have developed methods for peer group and one-on-one mentoring or supervision and train groups to use these methods as an effective and practical professional development and support tool. I also run workshops for tertiary teachers on Reflective Practice.

Areas of Specialty:
In my therapeutic work I am practiced at working with many dimensions of the body-mind experience, from deep relaxation and inner awareness to releasing old patterns and trauma, and gaining insight into long-term health issues.

In my supervision, training and facilitation work, I am skilled at developing a cooperative, inclusive environment, eliciting the underlying issues, and facilitating holistic solutions, insights or learning that come from the individual or whole group.

As a teacher, I am passionate about experience-based learning, where students come to understand the essence of Holistic Pulsing through their experience of it during class, rather than through being ‘lectured’. This keeps me in the learning loop as well, as we all discover new aspects of Holistic Pulsing together.

Kim McKay,
Remedial Massage Therapist (Dip RMT in Integrated Body Therapies)
Yoga Instructor (Dip. Yoga)
Director of Flow Body Therapy and Flow Yoga Therapy

Kim is passionate about wellbeing and has had a lifelong interest in the body and mind. With a caring outlook on the whole person and a keen interest in the mindbody connection, Kim believes that each person's unique requirements can best be met through the use of a variety of tailored techniques, coupled if necessary with self-care, such as yoga and mindfulness, to aid recovery.

She graduated originally with a BA in Psychology and Social Sciences then her interest in working with the body promted her to do a Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy & Integrated Body Therapies and Diploma in Yoga. She has gone on to learn Intra-Muscular Acupuncture Needling for Pain Management and Applied Myoskeletal Therapy (AMT Australia) and is a practioner of Fascial Kinetics (a branch of Bowen Therapy).

Kim has worked with a wide variety of clients as a Remedial Massage Therapist, successfully dealing stress related issues to help restore balance in the nervous system, providing relaxation and relief, helping clients to address occupational overuse conditions and tension, postural issues (such as fullbody symmetry), sports rehab and general maintenance massage to promote circulation, immunity and general wellbeing.

Sharing her passion for body work with students is something that does with great enthusiasm and joy. It is her belief that connecting through positive touch as human beings is healing and nourishing on all levels from the body, to the mind, emotions and spirit. Helping people to learn to work with others with skilled, safe touch that can accompany their relaxation and restoration is a great priviledge.

Amanda Smith
Dip. Remedial Massage
Dip. Thai Massage
Cert. Relaxation Massage

B.A Media: Journalism

Amanda’s massage journey began in 2005 when she studied Thai Massage in Chiang Mai, Thailand. From then, she has been hooked; hailing massage as her obsession as well as her ongoing passion. She went on to study a Certificate in Relaxation Massage, a Diploma in Remedial Massage, and has gained a wealth of experience working in professional clinics in Auckland and Tauranga. She now runs a busy massage clinic in Papamoa.

As a Remedial Therapist, Amanda believes the first step in successfully treating any condition is to reduce the body’s stress response. In a time where stress is behind a huge percentage of illness, the importance of holistic and relaxation massage has never been greater.

She is passionate about empowering clients to take responsibility for their healing; for them to connect with their bodies and not chase the pain. Amanda believes teaching clients to understand their body is key to being a good therapist.

She specialises in chronic pain conditions as low back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia as well as postural stress.
